Do Gentlemen Prefer Blondes?

The dating world is a scary place. “Love at first sight” is now being replaced with “love at first swipe”. In my short time on these dating sites (okay, maybe it was on and off for a year), some guys used pick up lines like; “I don’t normally swipe right for blondes, but there’s something about you.” GROSS! It’s so shallow to me. Why should hair color even matter? I’ve dated guys from brown to red from balding to bald. Is there a stigma on women’s hair? As a hairdresser and a scorned woman, I wanted to get to the bottom of this, so I asked around.

‘Does hair color matter in the dating world?’

“Doesn’t matter at all really in the long run. When I was younger I was more drawn to blondes because the media, Barbie dolls, and Buffy told me that was attractive but now in my late twenties it’s equal opportunity hair color. There is something to be said about a hair color complimenting a particular color of eyes.” - Doug, 29

“Well, I’ve dated all types of hair, except bald. I don’t really have a preference as long as it’s clean and smells nice. I think hair color really only comes into play when it accentuates someone’s eyes.” - Charles, 44

“I don’t have a preference as long as it looks attractive, not dull or flat.” - Dan, 50

Either I only asked gentlemen these questions or I was only swiping right on “fuck boys”, but the general synopsis is this; It doesn’t matter what color your hair is, as long as you rock it (and it smells good)!

My advice to all you single ladies, get off the dating apps and go get your hair done, for YOU.   Whether it be bright purple, or subtle red, stop worrying what men or women might think.

Do you, girl.
